The Guernsey-Noble Safety Council will meet Wednesday, June 25, 2014 from 8 am - 10 am at the BWC office in the WalMart plaza on Southgate Parkway.  Please note that this is a two-hour meeting.  This is extraordinary training. Members are encouraged to bring friends and or co-workers.

Bethany Hayes, the Director of Public Safety for OUZ and Zane State College, will be presenting “Responding to Critical Incidents/ Active Killer Situations ALICE Training”.

Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate (ALICE) concepts provide insight as to what to do during critical incidents and active killer situations until law enforcement arrives on-scene. The program focuses on putting survival options into your mind beforehand instead of trying to formulate these under extreme stress. The program also focuses on crime prevention and situational awareness efforts.

Cambridge/Guernsey County Ohio offers affordable summer getaways for families, couples

CAMBRIDGE, OHIO (June 16, 2014) – Summer time is a mix of family reunions and vacations. Selecting a close-to-home destination offers families and couples an affordable getaway. Cambridge/Guernsey County, Ohio offers a unique blend of small-town charm and natural beauty.

“Whether it’s a relaxing getaway from home or a family reunion, Guernsey County has something to offer for everyone during the warm days of the summer season,” said

Debbie Robinson, Cambridge/Guernsey County VCB director. “Our close proximity, easy drive time, and abundant outdoor recreational opportunities make the region a prime location for gathering family and friends.”

Summer isn’t summer without a trip to the lake. With 3,550 acres of water, Seneca Lake is the third largest lake in Ohio, offering plenty of room for boating, swimming, and a family picnic in this scenic outdoor wonderland. A secluded retreat at Salt Fork State Park (the largest state park in Ohio) offers 3,000 acres of sparkling water with unlimited horsepower for skiing, power boating, cruising, or simply lounging.

Taste the freshness of summer with a relaxing “Chef in Vineyard Dinner” at Terra Cotta Vineyards. The dinners are offered once a month on Fridays when a multicourse dinner is served and concludes with a flaming dessert presentation overlooking the scenic landscape of the vineyard.

Don’t miss seeing and hear the drama of the ages beginning June 20. The Living Word Outdoor Drama hosts a vivid and passionate production of Christ’s life presented on a 400-foot panoramic set, designed to replicate Old Jerusalem. Each performance will be held every Friday and Saturday, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the upcoming months.

Mark your calendars for the National Cambridge Glass Collectors Show & Sale on June 27 & 28 sponsored by the National Cambridge Collectors in conjunction with their annual convention. The event features a number of quality dealers, from regional to national, some of whom only exhibit at the show.

The 110th Ohio Hills Folk Festival will take place the weekend of July 9-12. Every year the Ohio Hills Folk Festival promises to be one of the region’s most timeless and family-oriented festivals. Parades are featured daily along with great food, entertainment, carnival rides, fireworks and music. Admission is free with the exception of the carnival.

Celebrating 46 years of bringing the arts to Guernsey County, the Salt Fork Arts & Crafts Festival brings Cambridge City Park to life with beauty and excitement on August 8-10. More than 200 artists participate in this unique festival, which includes craft classes, entertainment, fine arts and crafts, demonstrations, performing arts, showcase of Ohio foods, youth art display and much more.

Rounding out the summer is the 29th Annual Cambridge Classic Cruise-In on August 16. This nationally recognized car show features 200+ cars from the early 1900s to the 2000s. More than 100 awards will be distributed, including the best of show, best truck, memorial trophy, largest club, oldest vehicle, and oldest driver. Spectators are able to enjoy merchant specials, a 50/50 drawing with door prizes, souvenir dash plaques, and event T-shirts while supplies last.
