Making memories is a very important part of the Salt Fork Festival, August 12-14 at the Cambridge City Park. Each year families and friends plan reunions and get-togethers around this busy weekend. It's a tradition.
Several high school classes, such as the Cambridge High School Class of '57, have planned a mini reunion at this time over the years. It's a great chance to get together and have fun while strolling through the many tents and listening to some great entertainment.
The “Eikenberry Girls”, Ellen, Mary, and Susan, have been coming home for years from California, Colorado, and Florida to help with the People's Choice Tent. Their family presents “The Alice and George Eikenberry Award” in honor of their mom, dad and brother. It is awarded to the best presentation of nature in art. They look forward to their Cambridge visit.
The Buchseib family planned their family reunions for years to coincide with the festival. When their children were in college, they invited their friends to join them as a last get together before the college year began.
The artists, too, are building a Salt Fork Festival tradition. Many artists return year after year as they find the community support and response at the Salt Fork Festival has always been so positive. Many say it is their favorite festival where they share their creations and talents.
But the tradition continues all year long in downtown businesses and offices. The John and Annie Glenn Award provides funds to purchase an award winning art piece from the Salt Fork Festival. This must then be displayed where it can be enjoyed by many.
Some of those paintings can be found at the County Administration Building, The Guernsey County Crossroads Library, Cambridge Mayor's office and downtown banks. The Senior Center was given a painting for display for their assistance throughout the years. These paintings not only brighten our buildings, but keep the Salt Fork Festival tradition alive throughout the years.
This year might be the perfect time to start a tradition of your own at the Salt Fork Festival. It's more than just a place to enjoy arts and entertainment; it's the perfect place to create memories.
