PITTSBURGH, PA (AP) -- Jonathon Niese (NEES) turned in another solid start with six strong innings in the Mets 5-3 win over Pittsburgh. The 5-4 Niese gave up three runs and scattered seven hits.
Daniel Murphy's second-inning single knocked in two of five early runs for the Mets, who halted a three-game losing streak against the Pirates.
Gerrit Cole made his first start since June 3rd for Pittsburgh, and New York greeted him with a three-run first inning. Cole lasted just four innings.
