Associated Press

The Associated Press is the essential global news network, delivering accurate, insightful news from every corner of the world, 24 hours a day. Since its founding in 1846, AP has been the first to report many of history’s most important moments, and every day, AP journalists, photographers and videographers file news from the front lines of the world's biggest stories.

AP’s reporting, photography, audio and video are published and broadcast by the world’s leading newspapers, TV channels, apps, radio stations, websites and magazines—in fact, over half the world’s population sees AP news content on any given day.

As a leader in the field of journalism, AP fights for freedom of the press and the public’s right to know. Its reporters take great risks to file in-depth stories from countries where the press is otherwise restrained, and in the U.S., AP aggressively uses the Freedom of Information Act to advocate for transparency and accountability in government.

With more experience reporting and delivering news than any other agency, a well-earned reputation for independence and accuracy, and a fierce commitment to the people’s right to know, AP is the definitive source for trusted news.

Ohio couple dies in small plane crash

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Officials say a married couple from Ohio died after their plane crashed in West Virginia. The small plane was on its way from Akron, Ohio, to Spartanburg, S.C., when it crashed about 5 p.m. Friday near Riverside in eastern Kanawha County.

Media outlets report that the National Transportation Safety Board on Saturday identified those killed as 50-year-old Lazarus Sommers and his 56-year-old wife, Maryann Sommers. The couple was from Millersburg, Ohio. The Charleston Gazette reports that the pilot of the Piper PA-32 had reportedly asked for help navigating around bad weather.

The newspaper said that West Virginia State Police responding to the crash needed about two hours to find the site with a helicopter.

BATAVIA, Ohio (AP) - The State Highway Patrol says no injuries were reported in the emergency landing of a single-engine plane on a golf course in southwest Ohio.

The patrol's Batavia post says the plane made the landing shortly before 11 a.m. Saturday on a fairway at the Stillmeadow Country Club in Clermont County. The patrol identified the two people on board as pilot Kenneth Howes and passenger and owner Karla Goodhouse, both of St. Clair, Illinois.

The patrol says its preliminary investigation indicates that engine failure after the plane took off from the Clermont County Airport forced the emergency landing. Investigators say the plane hit a sand bunker before coming to a stop and rolled partially on its side on the green. The Federal Aviation Administration responded to the scene south of Batavia.
