Monroe Central knocks #2 seed Fort Frye out of District Tournament in Double Overtime



BYESVILLE, Ohio. The Monroe Central Seminoles upset the Fort Frye Cadets 76-73 in double overtime on Friday night to advance in the Boys' Division III District tournament at Meadowbrook High School.
The teams traded the lead all night long. The score was tied 14-14 at the end of the first. The two teams fought through the second quarter, which led to a first half score of 30-27, Fort Frye.
The Seminoles turned up the heat in the second half, with Zach Jorris hitting a three point shot from mid-court to end the third quarter, giving the 'Noles a 50-46 lead. In the exciting fourth quarter the two teams kept it close and tied by the end, 62-62, pushing the game into overtime. The first overtime score was 68-68, pushing the game into double overtime. Ultimately Monroe Central, playing tough team defense and hitting a number of key free throws down the stretch, prevailed with by a final score of 76-73.
Gavin Morton led Monroe Central with 23 points and Zack Jorris chipped in 20 points.  Fort Frye was led by Carter Keifer with 19 points and Seth Legraen with 18.  The Seminoles advance to play St. Clairsville in the District semi-finals on Tuesday, March 10th at 6 p.m. at Ohio University-Eastern.

John Glenn beats Dover 73-50

Muskies sent message to D-2 Basketball contenders

NEW CONCORD, Ohio. Behind the hot shooting of All-Ohio Candidate Drew Rackley, the #3 John Glenn Little Muskies thrashed #6 Dover on Tuesday night 73-50.

The game between the two highly rated teams started out as expected with Dover in the lead at end of the first quarter 14-12.  The second quarter proved to be a turning point for the Muskies however, as they blazed down the court constantly with score after score. At half time, after the dust settled, John Glenn had a 30-19 lead, with Rackley pouring in 15 of the Muskies' 18 points. The third quarter wasn't much different, as the Muskies continued their assault and ended up with a 53-31 lead.  John Glenn then cruised to an easy 73-50 victory in the fourth quarter..

Drew Rackley led the Muskies with 32 points. John Glenn is 16-0 on the season.  Blake Blair led Dover with 16 points.  The Tornadoes drop to 16-2 on the season.
