Noble County, Ohio, the land of picturesque tree-covered hills, white farmhouses, Mail Pouch Barns, and covered bridges. ATTRACTIONS DOWNTOWN CALDWELL - The entire business district is being prepared for nomination to the National Register. On East Street is the Ball-Caldwell House, built in 1832 and recently restored. It is also on the national Register of Historic Places. Open by appointment, 732-4523. HERITAGE PARK- On the Noble County fairgrounds. Maintained by the Noble County Historical Society. Features transplanted and restored one-room schoolhouse, church, log cabin and covered bridge which are open to the public throughout the Noble County fair. MANCHESTER COVERED BRIDGE - Built in 1914. 49 feet long. This is the only covered bridge in Noble County still open to traffic. Located on Sharon Road 3, two miles south of Olive Green, off Route 78. USS SHENANDOAH - In Ava, the monument to Captain Zachary Landowne and 13 other victims of the crash of the USS Shenandoah. 29 survived the accident. The Navy dirigible, the first rigid airship built in America, was broken apart during a severe thunderstorm in the early morning hours of September 3, 1925, and fell to earth in 3 parts over the rugged hills of Noble County. The site where the stern came to rest is visible from interstate 77, north of the Belle Valley exit in Noble County. A monument and picnic area mark the spot of the bow section along Route 78. The 3rd site where the control car was broken off is located on a farm east of I-77, about 1/2 mile from where the stern came to rest. A monument and flag mark this site. Two area schools are named after the airship. SENECA LAKE - A 3,500-acre lake that is part of the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District and offers numerous recreational opportunities. The Buckeye Trail runs nearby. WOLF RUN STATE PARK - A 220-acre lake along the Buckeye Trail.
